A two-person exhibition emphasizing an appreciation of nature, imagination, emotion and transcendent experiences. Featuring new work by Frank Kallop and Donna Usher, the exhibition celebrates surreal and conceptual execution while incorporating unorthodox materials and approach to question nature’s overarching influence on themes such as mindfulness, notions of space and time, and the inherent ideas that shape us and our worlds.
Kallop’s paintings are an attempt at reorganizing reality to find and create a deeper meaning. He collages found images to create a visually and intellectually stimulating composition that he then magnifies and recreates in acrylics. Equal parts surrealist, biomorphic and something entirely his own, Kallop’s work is purposeful in provoking tension to the viewer, encapsulating brief moments in time and encouraging speculation on how any specific moment may come to pass or potentially resolve.
Frank Kallop, Day 1, 5:30AM, 2025. Acrylic on canvas, 40 x 60 x 6 inches
Usher’s abstract paintings reference both real and imagined landscapes that seem cosmic in some ways, and microbial in others. Evoking complex patterns that reveal themselves in nature, she creates spirited works in both acrylic and clay that explore translucence, texture, and shape. Usher embraces unexpected results of her multilayered decision making with intricate details and a propensity for color and texture, implying the process of creating is as important as the final composition.
