Danny McCaw's portrait oil painting "Silent Connections".

Featuring Danny McCaw’s abstracted figure paintings and Gary Weisman’s multidimensional bronze sculpture, this exhibition captures the ongoing relevance of dialogues considering how formalist interpretations of the body continue to convey beautiful truths unobliging to reason.

McCaw’s oil paintings often favor a thick impasto and moody palate engaging in gesturally decisive imagery blurring the visual vocabularies of representation and abstraction. He uses seemingly simple geometric perspectives to masterfully create minimalist humanistic forms that are left to be completed in detail by the viewer’s gaze, while the compositions convey a sense of uncertainty, leaving generous space for ambiguity, encouraging contemplation, imagination, and personal interpretation. McCaw’s paintings are imbued with emotional potency and the angst of narratives left untold.

Danny McCaw, Silent Connection, ca 2024. Oil on board, 12 × 9 in.

Weisman pays astute attention to negative space; crafting sculptures whose presences extend beyond their immediate forms, lending kinetic energy and cast-shadow projections to their surrounding environments as completing components of the works themselves. His figures ask the viewer to abandon preconceptions of space and gravity and to just exist in silent acknowledgement and appreciation of one another. Rare among contemporary sculptors, Weisman performs every step of his art-making process by hand, mixing clay and modeling, lost-wax casting in his foundry, and sanding and polishing in his studio, expertly rendering historically inspired bronze sculptures that possess an innovative contemporary dynamism.

Danny McCaw's abstract oil painting "Harmony in Contrasts".

Danny McCaw’s work is inspired by his interactions with the world around him. He spends time in his community collecting moments of awe to bring back to his studio for introspection. Letting these experiences move through him, Danny paints intuitively. His paint strokes translate his emotions onto the canvas in his signature impasto style. This process results in abstracted figures in familiar settings that recall unity and togetherness with light and color.

Danny McCaw, Harmony in Contrasts, 2024. oil on board, 45 × 40 × 2 1/2 in.

Danny McCaw has displayed his work in over 20 solo exhibitions and copious group shows from California to New York. McCaw was presented the Wright Foundation Grant in 2002, has been featured on the inaugural cover of American Art Collector Magazine and within Southwest Art Magazine among several other national and international publications. His emotional and textured works are universally admired in both corporate and private collections worldwide.

Drawing inspiration from Greek forms, the romance of the Italian Renaissance, Egyptian steles, the works of Auguste Rodin, and Constantin Brancusi, Gary Weisman creates historically inspired bronze sculptures that possess a contemporary dynamism. Weisman’s primarily nude forms reflect his preoccupation with the human condition and highlight the human body’s impressive capabilities.

Gary Weisman, Holding ourself, 2023. Bronze on black lacquered wood base, 21 × 16 1/5 × 10 in.

Weisman's masterful compositions and engineering conveys a weightless quality in his bronze creations. Rare among contemporary sculptors - particularly those working in large-scale installations - he performs every step of his art making process by hand: mixing and modeling clay, lost-wax casting, and pouring bronze in his custom-built upstate New York foundry and studio.
